Occupying the lawn in front of the Serpentine Gallery the 2013 Pavilion, designed by Sou Fujimoto, is constructed from white steel poles in an intricate latticework pattern that aims to blur the boundaries between inside and out. Described as ‘a cloud’ and ‘a transparent terrain’, the structure has a lightweight and porous appearance that allows it to melt seamlessly into the surrounding garden landscape. The site houses a flexible, multi-purpose social space with a café and throughout the summer visitors are encouraged to enter and interact with the Pavilion in different ways.

This year COS is supporting the Serpentine’s Park Nights 2013
programme, a series of music, performance art, talks and film
screenings. The opening event of the series will see pavilion
architect Sou Fujimoto discuss the ideas behind his design with
Serpentine Co-Directors Julia Peyton-Jones and Hans Ulrich Obrist.
Also on this year’s programme, psychoanalyst Adam Phillips and Paul
Holdengräber, Director of Public Programmes at The New York Public
Library, will discuss ideas of unfulfilled potential and the idea of
missing out.
To mark our support of summer events at
London’s Serpentine Gallery, we have designed two limited edition
shirts drawing inspiration from utility, nature and the concept of the
shirt itself. Available to buy online, at COS Regent Street and the
Serpentine Gallery, proceeds from the sale of the shirts will be
donated to the Serpentine Trust.
