With this approach in mind she created a sustainable solution, resulting in a lamp with no plug or switch. Titled Spark of Life, the lamp contains electrochemically active bacteria that emit electrons as part of their metabolism. These particles power four LEDs within the bulb, giving it a luminous glow.
The power of the lamp is maintained through nourishment: it needs a teaspoon of acetate every two weeks and some fresh water every month. By nurturing the lamp, a new bond is formed between user, nature and science.
