Taking the form of an enclosed courtyard and inspired by Mexican domestic architecture, this year’s Pavilion utilises light and shadow, reflection and refraction to create a heightened awareness of the passing of time. Comprised of two rectangular volumes angled to align with the eastern façade of the Serpentine Gallery and the Prime Meridian line at London’s Royal Observatory in Greenwich, Escobedo’s Pavilion is brought to life by a lattice of locally sourced cement roof tiles, chosen for their dark colours and textured surfaces.
